Note From Principal Ann Vescio

What a spring this has been! On behalf of the entire Weston Middle School staff, I wish to express my gratitude and congratulations for the hard work that parents and students have displayed during these unprecedented times.  We have missed the day to day interactions with our students and the entire school district community.

We are looking forward to our return in late August and remain optimistic that things will improve for the safety of all. The Oregon Department of Education released the Ready Schools, Safe Learners Guidance today, June 10th. Athena-Weston School District staff have been engaged in a process to develop guidance for school start-up as well as planning and specifically reviewing current classroom space, staffing, sanitation needs and transportation needs to finalize our back to school model.  Our priority is to have all students physically back at school while meeting all safety guidelines.  Our current assessment indicates that we have the capacity to achieve this goal.  For students who have additional risk factors and wish to continue Comprehensive Distance Learning, this option will remain available and supported by our teachers.  We will be enlisting the assistance of the local health authority, parents, and community members as we complete our Ready School plans.

In order to allow staff more time to prepare for the return of students in August, the district has moved the first day of school for students to MONDAY, AUGUST 31st.  The district will send an updated school year calendar families in late July.

Have a safe and enjoyable summer. WMS staff will be ready and waiting for students to return in late August.  If you still have technology or other instructional materials that need to be returned, please contact the district office at 541-566-3551.
