Today for lunch we are serving turkey with noodles.
We will have our academic awards assembly on Tuesday, June 4th. We will start with the 7th grade reader's theater production of The Way the Cookie Crumbles. After the 7th grade production, the 8th grade drama class will perform their play, Invasion of the Halloween Dance. The doors to the auditorium will close promptly at 8:15 a.m when the play begins and will not reopen until both productions are over. If visitors arrive after the play has begun they will be able to wait in the library until the doors open again. After the productions we will begin with the 4/5 assembly. The 4th and 5th grade classes will be dismissed around 9:15 am and then we will begin the 6/7/8 grade portion of the academic assembly. Not all students receive awards. If you have a question as to whether your student will receive an award, please call the office on Monday.
Our 6/7/8 Grade Spring Band Concert will be held on June 4th at 7:00 pm in the upper gym. Band students need to report to the upper gym by 6:40 pm in causal concert attire. The concert will last about 45 minutes. Following the concert, students who own horns should take them home. The 8th grade recognition ceremony is on Thursday, June 6th at 7:00 pm in the auditorium for eligible 8th graders. To be eligible you need to be passing your core subjects and have all ASB fees and lunch fees paid. The 8th grade parents have planned an after party following recognition at Pendleton Skate City. The bus will leave WMS at 8:30 pm, after the 8th grade recognition, and will return students at 11:30 pm. All 8th graders attending are required to ride the bus to and from Pendleton. Sports Announcement for Next Year:
Football, Volleyball and Cross Country practice for NEXT YEAR will begin August 27th, 28th and 29th.
There will be a basketball camp for grades 3-6 on June 10 and 11 from 4 pm to 7 pm at the high school gym. Registration fee is $100. If you have questions or would like to sign up, please contact Coach Stephen Garnett at 509-520-5124 or register online at overtimetraining.com.
The Parent Group is putting together a community cookbook to raise funds for library updates. They are in need of your favorite recipes. Please share this information with your family, neighbors and friends. In order for it to be successful, we need as many recipes as possible. You can submit your recipes in three ways:
1. Email them to awcookbookgmail.com. They can be scanned, typed or you can email a picture of a recipe card.
2. Mail your recipes to Alecia Angell, PO Box 235, Athena, OR 97813
3. Contact the Parent Group and we will organize pick up. 541-922-8450
This is not just limited to current community members. They would like to hear from alumni who may no longer live here or people who have lived in our communities in the past and still have connections. They are asking to have recipes by June 15th.
