School Board Vacancy

The Athena-Weston School District Board of Directors is seeking candidates to fill the Zone 4 Director position. An Athena-Weston School Board member is an elected community representative who helps set the vision and policies for the Athena-Weston School District, overseeing areas such as budget, facilities, academic calendar, curriculum, and major initiatives that shape student learning. The board plays a vital role in ensuring strong schools and responsible stewardship of public resources, including decisions about long-term facilities planning and bonds that directly impact the quality of learning spaces for local students. Board members commit to at least one regular meeting per month (generally on the 2nd Monday), with additional special or committee meetings scheduled as needed during periods such as budget development, public outreach, or major projects.

To be eligible you must:
  • Be a legally registered voter living within the Athena-Weston School District
  • Have resided in the district for a period of at least one-year immediately preceding the appointment
  • Currently reside within Zone 4 (see map)
  • Not be an employee of the school district except as a substitute bus driver in accordance with ORS 332.0169

To apply, please submit a letter of introduction to the Athena-Weston School Board of Directors via email at tim.seymour@athwestsd.org or mailing a copy to AWSD 375 S 5th St. Athena, OR 97813. You may also hand deliver a copy of your letter to any of the three school offices. Deadline for submissions is October 2, 2026.

  • Why do you want to serve on the School Board?
  • What experiences or perspectives do you bring that will help you to represent and serve all district students and families? Please include any relevant past experience with setting organizational policies, strategy, or budgets.
