Weston Middle School – One School, One Book

03-19-24

All of the students in fourth through eighth grades at Weston Middle School literally got on the same page recently. As part of the annual One School, One Book project, all of the students read the same book, Two Degrees by Alan Gratz, in their language arts classes. The book focuses on climate change through three stories of young people who encounter wildfire, a hurricane and wildlife in three different locations.

After reading the book, Weston Middle School students gathered for an Assembly on the morning of Friday, March 15th for presentations by speakers from the U.S. Forest Service and the National Weather Service. Then they participated in multi-age discussion groups and completed an essay related to the content of the novel.

Ann Vescio, district Superintendent and Principal of Weston Middle School, said this is the fifth year the school has organized One School, One Book. “This has been better than any other method to get kids to read and enjoy a novel,” Vescio said.

Weston Middle School thanks the Friends of Athena Library for their donation so hardback books could be purchased for every student.
