Students at Weston Middle School have another option for shopping for clothes with the
TigerScot Treasure Trunk. Opened in November 2023, the clothing boutique is located at
Weston Middle School and offers a variety of clothing items for FREE for students.
The Treasure Trunk was established by WMS Counselor Charissa Hixenbaugh and WMS Teacher
Kati Funderburk. Hixenbaugh said there is only one clothing store in Athena, which limits
choices for students and their families. She said the Trunk really serves four communities –
Adams, Athena, Tollgate and Weston.
The Treasure Trunk has pants, shirts, hoodies, coats, winter gear, shoes, boots and even
personal hygiene products. The clothing racks and all of the merchandise are donated. The
project received a $2500 grant from the Pacific Power Foundation, which has been used to
purchase totes for organization and storage. Students from the Life Skills class spend time
organizing the items, and community volunteers also donate time.
The Treasure Trunk is open to all students. Five students at a time can shop during lunchtime
three days a week. The boutique is also open during certain special events like Pioneer Days
and Parent-Teacher conferences. Hixenbaugh said they are planning to do some pop-up
boutiques for elementary and high school ages.
“I think we have had great support for the Treasure Trunk – community volunteers to help, staff
members who promote it and students who are excited to shop there,” Hixenbaugh said.
Anyone can donate clothing items to the Treasure Trunk, they can drop donations off at
Weston Middle School. Hixenbaugh said current needs are boys’ clothing for ages fourth
through eighth grades, as well as shoes and socks.
