CTE Month 2025  WMHS Teacher Spotlight  Meet Julie West, Fine/Studio Arts CTE Teacher She teaches Graphics, Photography, Pottery & Art  In your classes, what is the CTE focus for the 24-25 school year? Knowledge and work-based learning, employability skills and industry standards. Students will engage in an enterprise, which showcases their work, teaches craftsmanship and gives hands-on marketing.   How do you think CTE work in your school is making a difference for students? I believe students experience the "Aha!” moment when they realize they can achieve things that they were familiar with and enjoy them. Work-based learning opens up opportunities they weren't aware that they could enjoy and make a career of. What is something people may not know about CTE in schools? Students who are in a CTE program seem to enjoy school more and are more likely to succeed.

CTE Month 2025 Weston-McEwen High School Student Spotlight Meet Lyla Rogers, a Senior at Weston-McEwen High School She takes classes in Food Science/Advanced Foods What do you enjoy about your CTE classes at WMHS? I enjoy cooking as it is, but I like getting to learn how to make new foods, working hands-on, getting creative and working on my skills. This class gives me new experiences and gives me the chance to solve problems and learn through trial-and error. I also like the people in the class, they’re a lot of fun. How are CTE classes making a difference in your education? My CTE classes give me hands-on experiences and everyday skills -- and in a fun way. I get to try all sorts of new things and get creative while doing it. CTE classes just feel like a break from other schoolwork and classes sometimes; they are classes that I look forward to going to. Would you like to share anything else about CTE at WMHS? I think the CTE program is a great outlet and opportunity for our students. I also think the experiences, skills, and access that it gives are very important.
